Argentine Tango

The Spanish dictionary defines the tango as an Argentine dance known worldwide with a binary musical form in a 2/4 time danced by an embraced couple of dancers.

The Tango is the Argentine music genre par excellence. Its undisputed origin dates back to the end of the XIX century (1880). At that time, in the port of Buenos Aires, in the dancing halls, in brothels, in clubs … the orchestras from those days played with the distinctive tempo of tango music. In the beginning, tango music groups were trios consisting of flute, violin and guitar; afterwards, by the beginning of the XX Century, The bandoneon was incorporated.

Along these years, tango outstanding history is a collection of times of limited success and relative declines, but its presence has been continuous. Tango dance and music have evolved until reaching a sophistication and sublimation level which is appreciated throughout the world.

“Tango que me hiciste mal
y que, sin embargo, quiero
porque sos el mensajero
del alma del arrabal;
no sé qué encanto fatal
tiene tu nota sentida,
que la mistonga guarida
del corazón se me ensancha,
como pidiéndole cancha
al dolor que hay en mi vida.”

Enrique Maroni
